DO NOT email the modem guy until you have read this whole page! I am not going to do all your work for you, as I've done enough just putting up this page, and keeping these drivers available.

If you can't be bothered reading it, don't email me. Everything you need to know about what driver to get and how to install it, is already here.

Modem Driver Installation Instructions

These instructions apply to Windows 95 and Windows 98. They will work with most driver or driver/flash combination files.

These instructions also assume that you already know how to make a folder (directory), and are reasonably familiar with unzipping a downloaded file.

DO NOT ask me for instructions on how to do these things. Get a book, ask a friend, or take a computer course, as you need more help than I can give in one simple web page.

Part 1)
Make a directory on your hard drive, and call it something like "mdmdrv".
This is the directory name I use in the following Part 2.
Unzip the file you downloaded to this directory.

Part 2)
Go to Control Panel, System. Click on the "Device Manager" tab. Look down and you'll see Modems. Click on the little plus (+) sign beside the word Modems. Highlight your modem by clicking on it once.
Click on the "Properties" button.
Click on the "Drivers" tab.
Click on "Update Driver" button.
Click "Next"
Click "Display a list of all drivers....."
Click "Next"
Click "Have Disk"
Click "Browse"
Double click "c" in the right hand column.
Double click "mdmdrv" in the right hand column.
Click "ok"
Click "ok" again.
Click "Next"
If a warning screen pops up warning about wrong drivers, click "yes", and install the update anyhow.
(This warning is standard. It just means that the driver provided is not from your modem's manufacturer, and should be ignored.)
Click "Next"
Click "Finish"
Click "Close"
Click "Close" again,
Restart your computer.

Go to Control Panel, Internet, Connection tab, Settings button, and specify your new modem type.
Connect to the internet!

Note: Rockwell is now called Conexant, the independent Semiconductor Systems division. Same modem, different drivername.
